5G explained

Use a 5G tower map to understand what’s really nearby.

5G is more than a badge in your status bar. Explore 5G NR sites, compare them with LTE and see the network context around your iPhone.

NR + LTECompare network generations in one focused map, then test the connection you actually feel.

What a 5G tower map shows

A useful 5G map helps you explore the relationship between your location and nearby 5G sites. Cell Tower Locator surfaces available tower markers, network generation, operator information and distance so you can investigate coverage instead of guessing.

Why your iPhone may switch between 5G and LTE

Phones move between radio technologies to balance coverage, speed and battery life. A 5G icon does not guarantee a faster result at every moment. Buildings, spectrum bands, congestion and the direction of the cell sector can all change the experience.

Pair the map with a speed test. The map explains what is around you; a speed test shows the performance reaching your device right now.

How to explore 5G sites

  • Open the map and look for 5G markers around your current location.
  • Tap a site to see its technology, operator and distance.
  • Compare several sites using the list view and generation filters.
  • Run a speed test from the same place to create a useful baseline.
Does a 5G tower map show every site?

It shows available tower data for the selected area. Coverage and database completeness can vary by location, so treat the map as a helpful reference rather than a promise of service.

Is 5G always faster than LTE?

No. Real-world speed depends on spectrum, signal quality, device support, network load and the distance to a serving sector.
